Dose optimization in coronary CTA.

چکیده
The annual number of computed tomography (CT) procedures in the U.S. has increased 20-fold (from 3 to 60 million) between 1985 and 2005 (1), and as a result, the average (i.e., per capita) annual background dose in the U.S. has nearly doubled from 3.0 to 5.6 mSv (2). This has precipitated increasing societal concern over the potential public health impact—an increased risk of cancer—associated with this dramatic growth in radiation exposure. Brenner and Hall (3), for example, have estimated that as much as 2% of all cancers in the U.S. may be

Low kilovolt “prospective ECG-triggering” vs. “retrospective ECG-gating” coronary CTA: comparison of image quality and radiation dose
Background: To compare image quality and radiation doses of low kilovolt (kV) “prospective ECG-triggering” (PT) and standard “retrospective ECG-gating” (RG) coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography. Materials and Methods: A total of 101 consecutive patients (76 males, 25 females; mean age: 55.44 ± 8.28 years) with low-to-intermediate risk status for coronary artery disease and with a body ...

Background: This study assessed the application value of 64-slice spiral computed tomography angiography (CTA) in a follow-up evaluation of patients receiving coronary stent implantation. Materials and Methods: A total of 468 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at our hospital between January 2013 and October 2016 were selected for this study. Coronary angiography an...
متن کاملTemporal Trends in Radiation Dose Associated with Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography
Background: In 2010, the International Atomic Energy Agency launched the “3A’s campaign” as an effective tool for primary cancer prevention. In 2011, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine recommended the size specific dose estimate (SSDE). Objectives: To audit doses of Coronary CT Angiography (Coronary CTA) in tertiary care referral center. Methods: We reviewed 998 consecutive Coro...
متن کاملCoronary computed tomography angiography with 320-row detector and using the AIDR-3D: initial experience
Coronary computed tomography angiography (coronary CTA) is a powerful non-invasive imaging method to evaluate coronary artery disease. Nowadays, coronary CTA estimated effective radiation dose can be dramatically reduced using state-of-the-art scanners, such as 320-row detector CT (320-CT), without changing coronary CTA diagnostic accuracy. To optimize and further reduce the radiation dose, new...
متن کاملRadiation dose estimates from cardiac multislice computed tomography in daily practice: impact of different scanning protocols on effective dose estimates.
BACKGROUND Multislice computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a promising technology for imaging patients with suspected coronary artery disease. Compared with 16-slice CTA, the improved spatial and temporal resolution of 64-slice CTA (0.6- versus 1.0-mm slice thickness and 330- versus 420-ms gantry rotation time) is associated with an increase in radiation dose. The objective of this retrospe...
متن کاملDose and image quality comparison between prospectively gated axial and retrospectively gated helical coronary CT angiography.
OBJECTIVE Our aim was to compare image quality, coronary segment assessability and radiation dose in prospectively gated axial (PGA) coronary CT angiography (CTA) and conventional retrospectively gated helical (RGH) coronary CTA. METHODS Institutional review committee approval and informed consent were obtained. RGH CTA was performed in 41 consecutive patients (33 males, 8 females; mean age 5...
